University of San Francisco Awards Prize for Service and the Common Good

In June of 2013, The University of San Francisco selected the San Francisco Free Clinic to receive the 2013 University of San Francisco California Prize for Service and the Common Good. The San Francisco Free Clinic provides free, accessible medical treatment to those without health insurance. Doctors Tricia and Richard Gibbs, founders of the clinic, closed a successful private practice to start the clinic in 1993. Since then, they have provided 70,000 patient visits to the uninsured with a variety of primary care and preventive services at no cost.

The University of San Francisco California Prize recognizes significant service in pursuit of the common good of society. The prize was created to recognize an organization or individual whose efforts benefit Californians, especially the poor and marginalized. The Prize was created and endowed through the generosity of USF supporters Susan and Philip Marineau.
